Suzanne Ivester

A native of Chicago, Suzanne Ivester now lives and works in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is a founding member of the Smoky Mountain Polymer Clay Guild, a member of the Blue Ridge Polymer Clay Guild, the Foothills Craft Guild, and the Tennessee Artists' Association, and was an instructor at ClayQuest 2005. Suzanne studied art at Kansas University but only truly found her niche when she discovered polymer clay in 1999. Suzanne's art explores the potentials of polymer clay, with all its incredible surface-decoration techniques, as a two-dimensional painting medium. Her paintings have appeared in NPCG's 2005 juried show, Progress and Possibilities, and in Polymer Clay: Creative Traditions, by Judy Belcher.

Oil Pastels--Four Ways with Clay
DEMO
All Levels
D3, Saturday, August 12

Suzanne Ivester will demonstrate four ways to use oil-pastel crayons with polymer clay: (1) Oil pastels can be used to color a rubber-stamped image on uncured clay. The oven's heat will set the color, giving a lively "hand-painted" look. (2) Black-and-white image transfers can also be colored with oil pastels, producing a delicate "hand-tinted" effect. (3) Make a beautiful mokume gane block using oil pastels on translucent clay, in combination with metallic leaf. (4) Create dramatic marbled and basketweave surface designs in minutes on uncured polymer clay by using oil pastels and combing tools.
