Patricia Kimle

Patti Kimle has been working with polymer clay for 11 years. Her work has appeared in various polymer exhibitions, including the Embellishments and bead and Button Shows. She has shown work in the Des Moines Art Center and twice sent polymer covered eggs to the White House. She holds a Ph.D. in textiles and taught Apparel Design courses at the university level for eight years, including Design, Visual Merchandising, and Illustration. Patti's work can be seen in several recently published books, and she has written articles for magazines on polymer projects and techniques. Patti lives in Iowa and teaches polymer classes locally in a wide variety of techniques.

Create the elegant, glowing look of enamel with polymer clay and ink. Use stamps, texture plates, or freehand sculpting and layering to create a composition. Then add magic and color and people won’t believe your design is clay and not glass over gold!

Supply List: Basic kit, black clay, gold clay (mica), other colors/scrap clay, TLS, cornstarch & spray bottle of water, glass or acrylic palette sheet, plastic palette knife
Materials Fee: TBD. Instructor to provide the following: pinata ink, epoxy resin. Students will need to purchase at least one sheet of 23K gold leaf at $2/sheet.

 
     
     
Watercolor Techniques for Polymer Clay

Paint like a watercolorist on your polymer clay. Using alcohol and alcohol-based inks, you can achieve the soft translucent color of traditional watercolor. Class will explore abstract to highly detailed painting techniques, including painting tiny landscapes and florals as well as several abstract bead styles.

Supply List: Basic kit, round watercolor brushes (2,4,6), small jar for alcohol, glass or acrylic for palette, white, pearl & translucent clay, alcohol-based ink or Prismacolor markers, photos of flowers/landscapes for inspirations

Sculpey Bake & Bend is extremely flexible and durable. It can be used to make flat molds which can be reused through the pasta machine with more clay. See some examples of ways you can create your own molds with patterns YOU design and which are more personal than commercial rubber stamps or texture plates.
