Ann and Karen Mitchell

Ann and Karen combined their educational backgrounds in business marketing and fashion/costume design to establish their own company, AnKara Designs, in 1991. The sisters specialize in mixed media polymer clay jewelry with a distinctively elegant and feminine style, and participate in twenty juried arts and crafts shows every year. Their jewelry has appeared in a number of films, television programs, and theatrical productions. Ann and Karen have published two articles in Jewelry Crafts magazine and have made numerous appearances on the Carol Duvall Show demonstrating their original techniques in Liquid Sculpey. Their work can also be seen in several books.

Dazzling Dimensional Memory Book with Liquid Polymer Clay

Adventures in Liquid Polymer Clay

Explore basic applications and stunning new techniques in liquid clay. Create beautiful dimensional effects and color layering with this versatile material. The first day covers basic adhesive, tinting, painting, and patina effects, and then offers a broad range of techniques including solid and liquid clay mosaics, imitative Venetian fiorato glass, impression glazing, terra cotta tiles, marbling, gilding, and metallic effects. Complete a small mosaic and a picture frame on the first day using several of the applications demonstrated. The second day includes glass effects such as cloisonné, enamel and stained glass as well as multiple black and white and color transfer techniques. Learn how to make your own fabric using liquid polymer clay, and discover all its applications.

There Is No Such Thing As Scrap Clay

This demonstration showcases creative ways to make beautiful designs from the scrap clay that gets trapped in the pasta machine and methods for salvaging old canes by incorporating them into wonderful new ones. Cane ends and cut off scraps can be revitalized as elegant veneers with a “fabric” look, excellent sheets for covering objects or for incorporating into background patterns for jewelry designs. 

     
     
     
Romancing the Clay: Ribbon Roses and Floral Decorations

In this demonstration, silk ribbon techniques are adapted to polymer clay to create lush blossoms to add romantic embellishments to your polymer art. Solid and blended colors formed into ribbons are easily sculpted into delicate flowers and leaves. Color, arrangement, texture, and application to projects are discussed as well.
