SL Savarick

Before SL Savarick was a polymer clay artist and teacher, he was a professional dancer, food stylist, bodybuilder and graphic artist and designer. Today, he works in his Los Angeles studio creating Polymer jewelry as well as inro, minaudiere, and vanity purses He’s taught design at Parsons School of Design, Corcoran School of Art. and Maryland Institute College of Art. He was selected to teach at The National Polymer Clay Guild International Polymer Clay conference in 2004. In addition to selling his work, he teaches polymer surface design, construction and finishing techniques as well as principles of design to students nationally.

Screenprinting is a versatile tool which can be used to apply complex and precise surface images on polymer clay. In this one day Intensive class we will explore improvisational, unstructured and traditional frame based screenprinting techniques that expand the possibilities of polymer clay surface design giving new depth and intensity to your work. Demonstrations and techniques taught include: • Tools and materials for improvisational, unstructured and traditional screenprinting • Image creation and preparation • Using autographic and digital positives with photo sensitive screenprinting film • Exposure and developing photo screen stencils • Design and registration techniques • Mixing and printing with acrylic based printing mixes • Applying screenprinting polymer to jewelry and other clay forms.

Supply List: Basic kit, bone folder, waxed paper, plastic coated freezer paper, paper towels, soft cotton rags (Bag-o-Rags is a good choice), scissors, clear C-thru® 12” ruler, note taking materials, sea sponge, white glazed tile approx. 8 X 10, masking tape, 6 to 10 small plastic containers with air tight lids, water container about 6” by 8” by 4”, polymer clay/ any brand (instructor uses Premo® 4 oz of each white and black and any 3 to 4 other colors of your choosing (can mix your own if you like),
Golden® brand heavy body acrylic paints in tubes or jars: Cadmium Red Medium or Pyrrole Red, Phthalo Blue(Green Shade) or Phthalo Blue(Red Shade), Phthalo Green (Blue Shade) or Phthalo Green (Yellow Shade) or Turquoise (Phthalo), Carbon Black or Mars Black, Titanium White, Iridescent Pearl (Fine) and/or Iridescent Bright Gold (Fine) or Iridescent Gold Deep (Fine) If you want to have more choices, some other colors you might add to the above set are: Quinacridone/Nickel Azo Gold or Quinacridone Gold (if you can find it), Quinacridone Crimson, Dioxazine Purple, Hansa Yellow Medium, Any of the Interference colors (Fine)
Materials Fee: $15.00. Instructor to provide the following: Image kit with 5 sheets PhotoEZ film, two sets of image positives (6-8 total images), squeegee, plate knife & handouts, plus use of instructor's materials (additional acrylic paints & mediums, exposure frames & clips, exposer unit)

 
     
     
Perfect Surface - Recreating Traditional Japanese Lacquer with Polymer Clay

Create a perfect, lacquer-like surface in polymer clay while making a petal-shaped box. Learn a variety of techniques, including box construction, lid fitting, working with liquid polymer clay and metallic powders, and silkscreen printing onto polymer clay. Finishing for a high luster lacquer shine is also covered.

Supply List: Basic kit, small rolling tool, Xacto craft knife #11 or #2 pointed blade, Bone folder, burnishing tool, wet/dry sandpaper - #220 thru 2000 grits, cornstarch pounce bag, waxed paper, plastic coated freezer paper, paper towels, soft cotton rags (Bag-o-Rags is a good choice), palette knife, scissors, clear C-thru® 12” ruler, Measuring tape, Note taking materials, pencil, pen, water container about 6” by 8” by 4”, sea sponge, White Glazed tile approx. 6 X 6, masking tape, glue stick, graph paper 8.5 X 11 8X8 grid, cardboard mailing 2” to 3” tube, polymer clay/ any brand (Instructor uses Premo®) 10 oz.. Black, 2 oz. each of 3 Metallic colors, 4 oz. each of 3 additional colors (can mix your own if you like.), TLS and dedicated brush (soft flat head about 1/2”), Pearl-Ex® powder in Bright or Aztec Gold, Zap a Gap
Materials Fee: $25.00.
