Cords of Clay – Lanyards and Focal Pieces for Fun
2 Day Studio
All Levels
S1 Monday-Tuesday, August 7 & 8, 9:00 AM

We are going to push the limits on polymer clay and make things you thought weren’t possible. I am going to show you how to extrude, make and bake the cording and make the lanyard. We will also make the focal piece for the necklace and learn several ways to finish the focal piece, PearlEx and lacquer, Glitter, Acrylic paint, and how to find the most complimentary one for the student and their desires, and talk about other ways to apply these techniques to pieces the student may want to try on their own. We will focus on problem solving by constructing each piece to make the complete necklace. We will make the end caps and the closure for the finished piece ourselves. This is going to be an intense but fun look at Polymer and what the limits are, anyone can do this. I will encourage fun and play while we work through all the aspects of the class. You will learn to share, play, and have fun with polymer. I am here to incite a riot in your mind and make it an easy journey.

Supply List: Supply List: Basic kit, Kemper Klay Gun & EZ Squeeze extruder, Bake & Bend or SuperFlex clay, Premo! Sculpey, molds & cutters you may want to try (optional), good attitude & willingness to learn

Translucent 101
1 Day Workshop
All Levels
W402 Thursday, August 10, 9:00 AM

This class will take you through mixing translucent colors and skinner shades, assembling canes and stacks of translucent colors, applying paints, inks, powders, leaf, glitter and organics to surfaces and included internally, and putting all of this together to make something. We will tackle sanding and buffing, playing and general good fun. Just think of this as a way to play with a lot of products and build more knowledge on the wonderful world of translucent polymer clay. Yes, this is a lot of information, but done in an environment of safety and reassurance, you have the notes written for you, so you can play all the time.

Supply List: Basic kit, Premo! Sculpey Translucent (With bleach if possible), molds & cutters you may want to try (optional), good attitude & willingness to learn and play at the same time.

Color Mixing for the Timid or Terrified – Skinner Shade Play
DEMO
Beginner
D16, Saturday, August 12

This demo will let you see how color works without the intimidation of the whole thing. It will open you up to learning the theory of color in the future and can work as the basis for starting your color training. It is a lot of fun to play with color; you just don’t know it yet. This can also start your knowledge of how to use the Skinner method of working to help you get started without fear. I will give you easy ways to change a palette of colors and still have it work with the original palette. We will touch on translucent blending and playing, different palettes, and mixing in neutral colors to get a whole new range of colors to work with. This is a fun class and will be good for those that think they don’t know anything about color. It will give some basic rules that will help in your further studies and play.
